Sgt. Kerry Harris said that at 7 a.m. detectives
executed a search warrant at the Santa Clara home of William Alex Wilson
III, the man who met Harms at around 6:45 last Friday night at the Rock
Bottom Brewery in Campbell.
"They searched his house, his car and his person, by which I mean
obtaining a DNA sample," Harris said.
Police have not named him as a suspect.
"By all accounts, he was with her until about 10 p.m.," Harris said,
adding that officers will return to Wilson's residence with a search dog
"to reinforce the search by our detectives."
Detectives are also working to corroborate the story of another man,
who has not been identified but who reportedly told police he followed
Harms home from the brewery and stayed with her in her home until about
midnight. Police say the man told them that when he left Harms' home that
night, nothing seemed amiss.
He is not considered a suspect either.
"We are still having fruitful communication with the second person,"
Harris said.
A search for Harms is being conducted today by police and members of
the community, including personnel from the police volunteer program,
along with Harms' co-workers and family members. Harris said he briefed a
group of search volunteers at about 9 a.m. today and hopes that the extra
attention called to the case will yield more clues from someone who may
not have heard the story yet and could provide useful information.
"They'll be distributing fliers and canvassing the areas around Ms.
Harms' home," Harris said.
Officers are also continuing their search today, with a focus on state
Highway 17, particularly "the shoulder of the road, and wooded, brushy
areas along the highway in Los Gatos all the way up to Campbell," he
explained.
Yesterday, officers and search dogs scoured open and wooded areas of
Vasona Park at Blossom Hill Road, the Los Gatos Creek Park and the Los
Gatos Creek Trail, but found no sign of the missing woman.
